Here's the thing: in US work culture, interviewers don't just want enthusiasm. They want specifics. Instead of "I am motivated," try something like, "I take initiative when I see a problem — for example, I noticed our team was losing time on weekly reports, so I built a simple template and cut that time in half." That's the kind of answer that stands out.
Another big cultural gap: in Japan, being modest is polite. But in a US-style interview, if you don't speak up about your wins, nobody will do it for you. You don't have to brag — just be clear and confident.
Also, don't sleep on the closing. When they ask, "Do you have any questions for us?" saying "No, I'm good" is a missed opportunity. Instead, try: "I'd love to know how this team collaborates across departments." It shows you're already thinking like a team player.
One last tip: it's totally fine to say, "That's a great question — let me think through that for a second." In a US interview, that reads as thoughtful — not slow. Pretty different from what we're used to, right?

最後にひとつ。「それは良い質問ですね、少し考えさせてください」と言うのは全然OK。アメリカの面接では、それは「頭が回らない」じゃなく「丁寧に考えている」と映るんです。私たちが慣れ親しんだ感覚とかなり違うでしょ？
