Foreign interviewers — especially in Western companies — want you to speak up about what makes you stand out. Saying "I worked hard as part of the team" is fine, but it's not enough. They want specifics. Think numbers, outcomes, and your personal role. "I led a team of five and we cut costs by 20%" hits differently than "I contributed to the project."
One phrase that really comes in handy is: "I took the initiative to..." It signals that you don't wait to be told what to do — which is exactly what foreign companies are looking for. Another solid one: "I'm someone who thrives in fast-paced environments." It's confident without sounding arrogant.
Also, don't be afraid to ask questions at the end. In Japan, asking too many questions can feel like you're pushing back, but in a foreign company interview, it shows genuine interest. Try: "What does success look like in this role in the first 90 days?" That question alone can help you stand out from the crowd.

欧米系の面接では「チームワーク」より「あなた個人が何をしたか」が重視されます。Netflixの『ザ・プラクティス』や海外ドラマの就活シーンでも、主人公が自分の実績をズバッと語る場面がよく出てきますよね。「出しゃばりかな？」と感じるくらいの自己アピールが、外資系ではちょうどいいバランスだったりします。

ぜひ使いたいフレーズが「I took the initiative to...（〜を自分から率先してやりました）」。指示を待たずに動ける人だと伝わる言葉で、外資系が求める人物像にぴったりです。もう一つ使えるのが「I thrive in fast-paced environments.（スピード感のある環境で力を発揮するタイプです）」。自信があるのに嫌みに聞こえない、絶妙な表現です。
面接の最後に質問するのも忘れずに。日本では「質問が多い＝反論している」と受け取られることもありますが、外資系では「本気で興味を持っている」サインになります。「この仕事で、最初の90日間で成功している状態ってどんなイメージですか？」と聞くだけで、他の候補者と差をつけることができます。
考え方のシフトはシンプル。「気づいてもらうのを待つ」のをやめて、「自分から見せにいく」こと。それだけです。
