Gaming stream culture has its own dialect, and it moves fast. Let's break down a few phrases you'll hear constantly — and what they actually signal in the moment.
"He's so cooked" — This means someone is completely done for, with zero chance of recovery. It's the 2020s replacement for "he's dead meat." If a streamer walks into an ambush with no ammo, chat floods with cooked cooked cooked. The repetition is the joke.
"Ratio" — Originally a Twitter thing, now everywhere. If someone in chat says something wild and another reply gets more likes or reactions, that's a ratio. Streamers call out bad takes with "ratio" as a one-word verdict. It's brutal, but it's affectionate chaos.
"No cap" — Means "no lie, I'm being completely serious." When a streamer pulls off something insane and says "no cap, that was the best play of my life," they're not being ironic. The opposite, "cap," means you're lying or exaggerating.
"Pog" / "Poggers" — Pure hype. It started as a Twitch emote of a shocked face, and now it just means something is hyping you up. "That's so poggers" = "That's genuinely awesome."
One thing that's stands out about gaming slang vs. Japanese net slang like 草 or ｗｗｗ? American stream culture tends to be louder and more hyperbolic — everything is either the greatest thing ever or absolutely cooked. There's very little in between. Once you catch on to that energy, the whole vibe clicks into place.
